Opinion: Alberta's referendum puts U of A's future at stake As students return to the University of Alberta (U of A) in anticipation of a new academic year, the energy at our five campuses is palpable. Students rush to first classes, while professors and staff add the finishing touches to courses and lab preparation. However, many on our campuses are asking if this dynamic hub is under threat, as we head to a provincial referendum on Oct. 19. Depending on how Albertans vote, the government could launch the legal process towards a binding provincial referendum on separation.
