Class action lawsuits - what are they, and should you join one?
(NEXSTAR) – If you purchased a Google device or lived in a home with a Google Assistant-equipped device in recent years, you may qualify for a payment in a multi-million-dollar class action settlement.
Google previously agreed to pay $68 million to settle a lawsuit that accused its Google Assistant of recording personal conversations without prompting, unbeknownst to those being recorded. The Assistant is typically triggered by phrases like “Hey Google” or “OK Google,” or by tapping the device or a button on it.
The suit alleged that this issue had occurred across multiple devices over a decade, but Google denies any wrongdoing.
If you were impacted, you could receive a portion of the $68 million settlement. You do, however, have only a few days to file a claim.
Who qualifies in the $68 million settlement?
There are two groups of qualifying class members who could receive payments.
