Pakistan is a country of enormous geographical, cultural, and demographic diversity. From the mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan to the coastal communities of Sindh, and from the plains of Punjab to the rugged landscapes of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the needs and challenges of different regions often vary widely. Yet, our administrative structure has remained largely unchanged despite significant population growth and changing socioeconomic realities. It is therefore time for Pakistan to seriously consider the creation of additional provinces not as a means of dividing the country, but as a way of bringing government closer to the people, improving administration, and ensuring more balanced development.

The purpose of creating new provinces should be administrative, not political or ethnic. A province that covers an enormous territory and population can face serious challenges in delivering public services effectively. When decision-making is concentrated far away from smaller cities and remote districts, local problems can take longer to receive attention. More provinces could allow governments to focus on the specific needs of their populations and respond more efficiently.

Bringing Government Closer to the People

One of the strongest arguments for additional provinces is accessibility. Citizens should not have to travel hundreds of kilometres or depend on distant provincial capitals to have their concerns addressed.
