It’s little wonder Sinn Fein is the bookies odds-on favourite to emerge as the biggest party in next month’s Assembly election.

The DUP is deeply spooked by the prospect, and is attempting to spook grassroots unionism which makes good electoral sense.

The protocol is an important issue to many unionist voters. But an invisible Irish Sea border is a less powerful pull on their heartstrings than fear of a Sinn Fein first minister and a border poll.
