Under current federal rules, many bridges must be inspected in, at most, 24-month intervals.
Sensors cannot replace bridge inspectors. They can help engineers see corrosion, cracks, scour and weak magnetic signals that eyes alone can miss.
Quantum computers are still a work in progress but quantum sensors are already in use at hospitals, laboratories and by defense contractors.
