Mullin said he can still ‘initiate’ plan to pull CBP from airports but sees’no need’ in Newark

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said he still has a “plan to initiate” the removal of customs officers from international airports, even as he said there is currently “no need” to do so in Newark.

Mullin’s remarks, made at a Monday press conference in Dallas, indicate he’s walking back from a plan he floated to take U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers away from their jobs screening international travelers in Democrat-led “sanctuary” cities.

It’s an idea that has been roundly criticized by national security experts and the airline industry, who say it would cause chaos at airports and flight disruptions around the globe.

Mullin said his remarks were targeted at Newark, where there had been protests outside a detention........
