For obvious reasons, job hunting is best done while still employed. Not while you’re actually at work, of course, although taking a minute to browse a recruitment site can distract from a dull day, while attending an interview is often unavoidable during business hours. And so you dress extra special that day hoping no one will notice, and you master the right keystrokes to quickly minimise your screen should someone walk by.

There are six types of jobseekers who test the market even though the market is already serving them well.

If you’re an employer, the realisation your employees are engaging in on-the-job job hunting could be a source of angst, but that needn’t be the case. Assuming your firm is a reasonable place to work, having an employee exploring other opportunities might be exactly what they need to appreciate the job they currently have. They could even turn into a source of market intelligence and innovation after being privy to competitor insights during the hiring process.
