‘Mockery is not debate’: Academics slam Priyanka Gandhi over ‘gaumutra expert’ remark

A group of over 200 academics and education leaders has written to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over her reported remark about IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti. The letter called for reasoned debate, scientific scrutiny and respectful public discussion.

New Delhi: A large group of academics, university leaders and former senior officials has written an open letter to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, objecting to her reported “gaumutra expert” remark about IIT Madras Director Professor V Kamakoti. The letter, dated July 30, said public debate should examine a scholar’s evidence and arguments instead of reducing the person to a label.

Gandhi made the remark during a Lok Sabha debate on examination reforms, referring to Kamakoti’s inclusion in a government task force. The comment........
