New Delhi: A Pentagon personnel database was breached, exposing sensitive information belonging to nearly 3 million people, including Social Security numbers and details about jobs held by military and civilian personnel, US officials said.

The breach affected about 2.76 million living people and another 294,000 deceased individuals, according to a US defence official cited by ABC News. The affected database is operated by the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), a major repository of US military personnel records.
