In some quarters, the progressive left has been so successful at weaponizing its authoritarian view of society that even some conservatives dismiss critics of gender identity politics, “anti-racism” or “decolonialism” as exaggerating the issues or engaging in debates that are “beneath the dignity of sensible people.” But these culture wars “are neither artificial nor trivial,” writes Nigel Biggar in his new book, “The New Dark Age: Why Liberals Must Win the Culture Wars.”
