A recent LBC report alleged that some TikTok vendors may be selling melatonin supplements at 30 times the NHS-recommended dose in the UK.

They also claim these items could be purchased without a prescription, which isn’t allowed in the UK.

But why is melatonin, a synthetic hormone that can help some people to sleep, only available through a prescription in the UK?

This is not the case in places like the USA, for instance, where melatonin products are available over the counter.

And in the UK, the product could be bought without a prescription until 1995.
