The House Select Committee on Jan. 6 wants to move faster, but can they really move fast enough?

On August 25, the House Select Committee investigating events related to the January 6 insurgency issued a long list of document requests, including documents from Trump officials along with social media and phone records from Republican members of Congress who communicated with Donald Trump on that day. In the month since that request, the committee has been uncovering new information almost every day, and committee chair Rep. Bennie Thompson has made it clear that rather than negotiate with Republicans who refuse to hand over information, the committee is ready to move straight to issuing subpoenas.

Meanwhile, a memo has emerged showing exactly how Trump’s attorneys cooked up a plan by which Mike Pence could simply ignore the outcome of the election, declare Trump the winner, and throw the nation into chaos. In response, Pence sought advice from several sources, including Dan Quayle, while trying “over and over” to find a way to make Trump’s scheme work.

In the same week, a second memo has surfaced showing that Trump’s campaign was fully aware that the voter fraud claims they were making were a lie. As Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell were marching out to rile Trump supporters with claims about Venezuelan dictators and votes being counted in Europe, they already knew it........
