Barty on a roll and ready to be a role model

London: The questions to Ashleigh Barty heading into her second-round Wimbledon clash with Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck were as diverse as the strokes she has on court.

Before the world's media, she was asked how she assessed her form in an opening round win over China's Zheng Saisai in her position as new world No.1. She was asked whether her entire match should have broadcast on Channel Seven, and about her chances of claiming the rare French Open-Wimbledon double. She was even asked whether she had heard from good friend Trent Cotchin, the Richmond premiership captain.


"Yeah, I spoke to 'Cotch'. I spoke to him yesterday [Monday] after he played as well. It was nice to see him back on the park [after injury]," said Barty, a staunch Tigers supporter.

"I keep in touch with 'Cotch' regularly, more about life in general than specifics in sport. But it was nice to hear from him."
