Random wildflowers. An overspill / of daylilies from our (too-busy-to-) garden

Mad-rich perfumed flowers, just as I’d craved, dew-soaked, so many I could barely grip their silk-wound handle. Stephanotis, freesia, roses, stock. Names in antique poesy from unwed great-great grands whose sepia volumes pressed loose petals odourless. Peaseblossom, cobweb. Nothing like this seething crush of scent-topped stems, slashed fresh from their roots. I couldn’t toss them to the next hopeful. Took the dizzy throng to expire in bliss, breathing hard all night by our hotel bed.

Sporadic tulips followed. Valentine dawdlers, assorted grocery-store cellophane captives, scarlet roses snatched last minute while kids kicked or dozed in the cart. Flown or trucked in, offhand opulence via bent backs in another hemisphere. Random wildflowers. An overspill of daylilies from our (too-busy-to-) garden.

Aloof tall........
