The optics were carefully choreographed — a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, a santoor session recalling Takaichi’s days as a college drummer, and Modi’s warm invocation of her as “meri chhoti behen.” But beneath the pageantry lay a substantive recalibration.
