What Mum's undies taught me

OPINION: I've always found Mother's Day a struggle.

Not because I don't want to celebrate my mum – I just find it incredibly difficult to find words or presents that sum up her entire career of mothering me for two-plus decades.

Every bus is encouraging me to buy her (and my mysterious Work Mum) diamonds, while catalogues full of shiny-haired, vapid white women seem to be overjoyed to get a pair of scales. And it's almost impossible buy a card that doesn't sound like it was written by a Care Bear with a penchant for pseudo-Victorian English phrases.

But given that it's Mother's Day on Sunday, I've been thinking a lot about what I'm most grateful for with my mum. And among the many things I've been thinking about, one I keep coming back to is her passion for exotic undies.
