Remembering President General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq Shaheed on his death anniversary

On 17 August 1988, the skies over Bahawalpur claimed a soldier-statesman whose vision still shapes the destiny of Pakistan. President General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq Shaheed left this world in a plane crash, That day a nation lost its longest-serving military ruler, but history gained a figure whose imprint on Pakistan’s destiny remains indelible.

The foundations he laid—of faith, strategic foresight, and national resilience—remain unbroken. Today, as the nation marks another anniversary of his martyrdom, we do not merely mourn a leader. We reaffirm the unfinished mission of a man who transformed Pakistan from all vulnerable state into a nuclear-armed Islamic power it is time to remember and refused to let Pakistan become a footnote in someone else’s empire. President General Zia ul Haq Shaheed was Born in 1924 in Jalandhar, he took a commission in the British Indian Army in 1945. After wartime training and service linked to the Malayan theatre, he returned to a subcontinent on the brink of partition.

At that moment of birth pangs, Captain Zia ul Haq Shaheed was among those entrusted with the solemn duty of escorting one of the last trains carrying arms and matériel across the new frontier into Pakistan. From those early days of nation-building he rose steadily through the ranks, serving in multiple commands until, in 1976,........
