The unit has remained empty since David Baker, who ran Mick's Foams, retired in January and closed the business.

Norwich City Council says it is carrying out work to repair the stall with new shutters and clean its interior before it rents out the unit to a new tenant.

Mr Baker took over the family business about 26 years ago in 2000 from his father, who founded the company in 1958.

The stall offered a large stock of foam, which Mr Baker cut to size, as well as an upholstery service.

Born in Norwich, he was well-known on the market with traders claiming his presence would be missed.

The council said at the time it would look to let out Mr Baker's stall in the coming weeks but it is not yet known whether it will consider another service-based business, a retailer or one that offers food and drink.
