India claims the top Draft Pick — and Date Draft is just getting started

India has never been a market that waits to be courted. When DateDraft — the sports-draft-style dating app that launched earlier this year — went live, India did not need a campaign, a celebrity endorsement, or a localised marketing blitz. It simply arrived. And India moved first. Of all the countries now active on DateDraft, India holds the number one position by a margin that has surprised even the app's team.

The country beat out the United States, Canada, Pakistan, the Philippines, and more than a dozen other markets to claim the top spot. With 1.4 billion people and a domestic dating app market projected to reach USD 1.42 billion by 2030, the numbers were always going to favour India. What they did not predict was the speed.

The Game Is the Algorithm

To understand why India responded so strongly, you first have to understand what Date Draft actually does, because it does not work like anything else on the market. When a user registers, the app asks about education, interests, and personal background. Those inputs feed into an algorithm that places the user into one of seven rounds, modelled directly on how professional sports leagues conduct their annual drafts.
