Fifty-six workers from Great Yarmouth Services (GYS), the council-owned environmental company in Great Yarmouth, began industrial action today in a dispute over pay, representing 32pc of the workforce.

Despite the strike, the council says all five of its regular waste collection rounds are operating and litter bins are still being emptied.

Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: "It is extremely disappointing that unions have chosen to target the busy summer holidays........
