Trump pushes for $350 billion military spending surge amid election reform battle
US President Donald Trump has called on congressional Republicans to approve a sweeping new legislative package that would significantly expand military spending while also introducing broad changes to America’s electoral system. The proposal, which Trump has labeled “Recon 3.0,” reflects the administration’s effort to address growing concerns over national security, depleted weapons stockpiles and domestic political priorities ahead of the next midterm elections.
In a June 11 post on Truth Social, Trump urged Republican lawmakers to act quickly to pass the measure, arguing that the United States faces mounting security challenges that require a dramatic increase in defense investment. The proposed package would add approximately $350 billion in military spending, raising the country’s defense budget to an estimated $1.5 trillion.
According to Trump, the funding would be directed toward several major defense initiatives designed to maintain America’s strategic superiority. Among the projects highlighted by the president are the development of the Golden Dome missile defense shield, continued investment in the F-47 next-generation fighter aircraft program, expanded production of the B-21 stealth bomber, enhanced drone capabilities, space-based military systems and the replenishment of ammunition reserves.
Trump described the proposal as an effort to “build the arsenal of freedom,” emphasizing both its security and economic dimensions. He argued that the legislation would strengthen the country’s industrial base, create hundreds of thousands of well-paying manufacturing jobs and reinforce America’s position as the world’s leading military power.
The administration’s push comes at a time when concerns have grown regarding the readiness of US weapons inventories. Years of military assistance to Ukraine........
