JD Vance — who may very well be the next president of the United States — says most Americans are not antisemitic.

He cites vague, unsupported percentages. He argues that what looks like rising antisemitism is actually a “backlash” to U.S. foreign policy consensus on Israel, and that this backlash deserves open debate rather than condemnation. He minimizes the influence of open antisemites on the right, suggesting figures like Nick Fuentes are overstated distractions used to avoid a “real” conversation about Israel.

He insists judging people by race or religion is disgusting — while declining to condemn antisemitism roiling parts of his own political camp. In short: antisemitism is marginal, the danger is exaggerated, and focusing on it distracts from policy disagreements with Israel.
