House Dems launch ‘End Corruption Caucus’ with eyes on Trump

A small band of House Democrats has formed a new group designed to combat corruption in Washington — a move that comes amid growing criticism that President Trump is abusing his powers for personal gain. 

Launched by Reps. Jason Crow (D-Colo.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Mike Levin (D-Calif.), the End Corruption Caucus is being billed as a broad effort to curb political wrongdoing, lawmaker self-dealing and the power of special interests to dictate policy in the nation’s capital.

But the unmistakable target is Trump, who has repeatedly used the power of the office to advance the interests — financial, legal and otherwise — of his family and allies. In the most recent example, Trump’s Justice Department created a $1.776 billion taxpayer fund to reward MAGA loyalists who claim they were targets of “weaponized” prosecutions. 

The Democrats say Trump’s actions are not only brazenly corrupt, but also threaten to weaken the country for years to come by undermining the public’s faith in America’s core institutions.
