Friends in Music, a community band for all ages and abilities, is beginning a new season.

Rehearsals are held on Thursdays, starting on Sept. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School, 1009 Armour Rd.

Friends in Music welcomes musicians of all backgrounds. Anyone who plays woodwinds, percussion, or brass is invited to join and play music at an easy-to-medium level of difficulty.

The band plays music in a variety of styles and genres in a relaxed atmosphere. Members are fun-loving, diverse, and noncompetitive.

No auditions are required. Members range from high school students to retirees. The band’s repertoire ranges from classical and band literature, to musicals and modern pop songs — something for everyone.

The group’s conductor is retired music teacher Ben Jackson, who taught music and English at Thomas A. Stewart for 28 years before retiring in January 2021.
