Luan Macauley Hart died on May 18, 2024, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King’s Lynn.

His provisional medical cause of death was previously given as hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), a serious brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen and blood flow around the time of birth.

A pre-inquest review was held at Norfolk Coroner’s Court to determine whether the full hearing could now go ahead after a number of adjournments while evidence was gathered.

The hearing was told investigations remained ongoing, with statements having been obtained.

Luan’s parents attended the hearing remotely via Microsoft Teams and were represented by Miss Nicholson, while the QEH was represented by Mr Jackson.

The family asked area coroner Johanna Thompson to obtain evidence from three independent experts in neonatology, midwifery and obstetrics.

The proposed scope of the inquest is expected to include the neonatal care Luan received and whether it met national guidelines.

It could also consider whether there were any missed opportunities........
