Think of it as the first-ever commercial airplane sofa bed—in economy, no less.
United Airlines today announced plans to introduce United Relax Row, a set of three United Economy seats that can be converted into a lie-flat couch on long-haul flights, starting in 2027.
Up to 12 dedicated Relax Rows, located between the United Economy and United Premium Plus cabins, will be offered on more than 200 Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircraft by 2030, the carrier said.
Each row will feature adjustable leg rests that fold up at a 90-degree angle to make room for a custom-fitted mattress pad. Other amenities include pillows, a specially sized plush blanket, and a children’s travel kit and stuffed plush toy for kids.

Unique Offering for United Airlines
“The United Relax Row is ideal for families traveling with small children, solo travelers, and couples who want the value of United Economy but with a little extra comfort,” United said in a statement.
The carrier says it will be the first North American airline to offer the innovative option. Air New Zealand has already offered a similar experience for years.
No word yet on how much a Relax Row will cost.
