Leila Parsa: From refugee child to internationally awarded entrepreneur
From the mountains of Kurdistan to the classrooms of Sweden, Leila Parsa’s journey is one of resilience, reinvention, and purpose. Once a young refugee who rebuilt her life through education, she is now the Founder and CEO of The Butterfly Concept—a design-protected, scientifically certified, and sustainability-driven educational system redefining what early learning can be. Her story embodies the rare transformation from refugee child to internationally awarded entrepreneur, a narrative of global relevance that demonstrates what visionary leadership can achieve when rooted in both empathy and evidence.
Before her concept reached global stages, Parsa’s entrepreneurial credibility was established in Sweden. Between 2013 and 2015, she received major national recognitions that laid the foundation for her later international influence. She was honored in Tillväxtligan 2013 as one of the fastest-growing companies in the county, the only woman among the recognized founders. She received the Pioneer Awards in 2013 and 2014, and in 2015 she was nominated among more than seven hundred entrepreneurs for EY Entrepreneur of the Year.
Building What the World Is Still Researching
What began as a mother’s observation evolved into an education model later validated by scientific frameworks. When Parsa started developing her first preschool in Sweden, she had no background in architecture or pedagogy—only determination and a meticulous reading of Sweden’s national curriculum. She asked herself what a school would look like if it truly lived its mission, and the answer became The Butterfly Concept.
