Hamish Williams has effectively pulled out of the race for Norfolk's Old Catton division for what his party - led by Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe - described as "personal reasons".

But his formal withdrawal from the contest came after the specific deadline to do so, which was set out in the election timetable as 4pm on Friday, June 19.

That means withdrawal is not legally possible and Mr Williams' name stays on the ballot, so he would be elected if he........
