Norfolk local elections 2026: What you need to know as county voters go to the polls

All 84 Norfolk County Council divisions are up for election for the first time since 2021 - and the last time before the authority is scrapped under a huge shake-up.

County Hall is currently under Conservative control, but Reform UK, buoyed by national polling, are looking to make it one of the authorities they take control of.

And at Norwich City Council, where 14 wards are up for grabs, the Green Party are hoping to take control of the currently Labour-led authority for the first time.

What is the current political make-up at the councils?

Norfolk County Council

The Conservatives have run County Hall for just shy of a decade, having succeeded the so-called 'rainbow alliance' of Labour, Liberal Democrats and UKIP, in 2017.

Under leader Kay Mason Billig, the Conservatives have 50 members.

The Liberal Democrats have nine, as do Labour, while there are four Greens.

There are also three Independent Progressive Group members, three Independents, two Reform UK, two Independent Non-Aligned members and two vacancies.
