Government's new adoption strategy welcomed by North East agency

Two families who adopted children have been speaking about their experiences as the Government unveils its new Adoption Strategy.

Adoptive parents have been speaking about their experiences of giving children a loving home with help from a North East adoption agency.

Steven and Robbie were matched to their son by Cumbria, Durham and Sunderland-based Coast to Coast regional adoption agency.

The organisation has helped would-be adopters from a wide variety of backgrounds to find their forever families, encouraging and supporting applications from single parents and same sex adopters.

Steven said: "Since our first date, we both knew that we wanted children. After five years of being together we started the official process of becoming adopters just before lockdown started.

"We applied on a Tuesday, and by Friday got an official visit and were allocated a social worker, who was lovely. It was quite a smooth process really - it seemed a little invasive at the time, but it’s a small part of the bigger picture.”

The entire process took just seven months from the start of their application until the arrival of their adopted son.
