I'm as qualified to be director of national intelligence as Bill Pulte

Few things represent the “DEI, but for unqualified goons” approach President Donald Trump takes to his Cabinet appointees better than this June 2 headline from The Washington Post: “Trump picks mortgage chief Bill Pulte to lead on national intelligence.”

Perfect. A 38-year-old pal of Donald Trump Jr. with a degree in broadcast journalism and experience in finance and home building, coupled with zero background in intelligence or national security, will now be America’s acting director of national intelligence. I feel safer already.

Pulte has been serving as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, though his actions have largely been serving Trump and his unquenchable thirst for revenge against political opponents. 

Pulte pushed the Justice Department to launch mortgage-fraud investigations against a slew of people Trump dislikes, including Sen. Adam Schiff, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook. In December, the Government Accountability Office launched an ongoing investigation into whether Pulte misused his authority in doing so.
