Far-right Israeli influencer banned from TikTok for breaking harassment rules
A far-right Israeli influencer had his TikTok account removed for breaching the social media platform’s bullying and harassment regulations, the Guardian reported on Friday after the UK paper flagged his account over videos showing him in confrontations with Palestinians and left-wing activists in the West Bank.
The UK paper said it had flagged the videos of Roi Star, a minor social media personality, and that TikTok has subsequently barred him after reviewing his account.
TikTok’s community guidelines state that it does not allow “people or groups that promote violence or hate, including violent extremists.”
It also does not allow content showing harassment, bullying, or coordinated violence.
Additionally, TikTok stated it removed videos from “other TikTok creators linked to Israeli far-right agitators,” the Guardian said, but the platform did not identify who they were.
The Guardian reported that they had gone through dozens of viral videos on TikTok and Instagram that showed Palestinians and activists being harassed, some of which belonged to Star.
In a conversation with the Guardian regarding a video he posted on Instagram in which he was seen pepper-spraying left-wing activists after they tried stopping him from entering their encampment in Ras Ein al-Auja, Star reportedly said he was there to “talk about peace.” He added that pepper spray was “the most minimal thing you can do to defend yourself.”
After the Guardian asked him about his threats, he said, “It’s all acting… It was just that the moment got heated up … My intentions were not to get that extreme.”
“It is my right as a citizen of Israel to walk around public areas … It [the West Bank] belongs to Israel. And if Arabs want to live there, they should be good Israeli citizens,” he added.
