Iran hits Israeli industrial zone for third time, strikes critical energy infrastructure across Gulf
Iran fired four salvos of missiles at northern and southern Israel on Sunday, with one projectile hitting an industrial zone, as the Islamic Republic damaged critical infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.
A missile fired at Israel struck the Neot Hovav industrial zone south of Beersheba on Sunday afternoon.
There were no reports of injuries.
The Israeli Air Force said that the ballistic missile carried a conventional warhead, not a cluster bomb. Attempts to intercept it were made, but air defenses failed to knock the missile down. The Air Force was investigating the matter.
A second missile fired at the south a short time later was likely intercepted, the Israel Defense Forces assessed.
More than 500 ballistic missiles have been launched from Iran at Israel since the start of the war.
Sunday’s attack was the third time the Neot Hovav industrial park has been hit since the start of the war.
Firefighters said there was no hazardous material leak as a result of the strike and that the missile hit an open area in the park, with the shockwave and shrapnel causing minor damage to a factory building.
“There are no known casualties. Concern over hazardous materials has been ruled out,” the service said.
The industrial zone is home to a toxic waste dump.
Last month, a fragment from a ballistic missile launched from Iran struck a chemical plant in Neot Hovav, sparking a blaze and prompting concerns of a hazardous chemical leak.
Earlier Sunday, salvos were fired at northern and southern Israel, sending hundreds of thousands of people running for shelter in the middle of the night. Northern Israel was again targeted at around 10 a.m.
There were no reports of injuries or damage.
Amid the attacks, Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Iran will “pay painful prices” and its national infrastructure will “collapse” if it continues to fire missiles at Israel.
“As we have stated: As long as missile fire toward Israeli civilians continues, Iran will pay painful prices that will erode and collapse its national infrastructure,” he said, following an assessment with military officials.
Katz also referred to the Israeli strike a day earlier on petrochemical facilities in southern Iran, saying that “the petrochemical industry has generated approximately $18 billion over the past two years for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps terror organization, and directly serves Iran’s missile production industry.”
As US-Israeli attacks have hit targets that are key to the Islamic Republic’s economy, the Iranian regime has repeatedly threatened and attacked civilian infrastructure in Gulf countries.
Iran fired missiles and launched drones at civilian infrastructure facilities across the Gulf on Sunday, causing significant damage at several sites.
Authorities in Abu Dhabi said on Sunday they battled fires at a petrochemical plant in Ruwais Industrial City on the UAE’s northwest coast “caused by falling debris following successful interceptions by air defense systems.”
“Operations at the facility have been immediately suspended while damage is assessed. No injuries have been reported,” the Gulf emirate’s media office said, after the United Arab Emirates’ defense ministry earlier said it was responding to missile and drone attacks.
Bahrain’s state energy company said an Iranian drone attack sparked a fire at a storage tank that was later extinguished.
“Bapco Energies confirms an incident occurred at one of its storage facilities earlier today, resulting in a tank fire, as a result of a hostile Iranian drone attack,” the company said, without specifying the location of the blaze.
“The fire has been fully extinguished, and the situation is under control. Damages are currently being assessed and evaluated. No injuries have been reported,” it added.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s electricity and water ministry said two power and water desalination plants were damaged by a drone attack from Iran, causing “significant material damage and the shutdown of two electricity generating units.”
Additionally, Kuwait’s Finance Ministry said a drone attack resulted in “significant damage” to its office complex in Kuwait City.
It said no casualties were reported.
The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday that the Air Force had in the past day hit over 120 targets. According to the IDF, the targets hit in western and central Iran included ballistic missile facilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, drone storage and launch sites, and air defense systems.
“The destroyed defense systems posed a threat to Israeli Air Force aircraft, and their destruction preserves the Israeli Air Force’s air superiority in the skies over Iran,” the military said, releasing footage of some of the strikes.

US-Israeli strikes also killed five fighters with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the country’s northwest on Sunday, Iranian state media said.
Israel launched its campaign against Iran, alongside the US, to degrade the Iranian regime’s military capabilities, distance threats posed by Iran — including its nuclear and ballistic missile programs — and “create the conditions” for the Iranian people to topple the regime, the military and Israeli leaders have said.
Since the war began on February 28, 16 Israeli civilians and foreign nationals have been killed in Israel in Iranian ballistic missile attacks, along with four Palestinians in the West Bank.
The Israeli Air Force has conducted hundreds of waves of strikes in Iran, dropping over 13,000 bombs on regime and military sites, including air defense systems, ballistic missile launchers, weapon production sites, nuclear facilities, and various headquarters.
The IDF has estimated that some 5,000 Iranian security personnel have been killed in Israeli strikes, along with tens of thousands more wounded, many of them members of the internal security forces and Basij paramilitary force.
US-based rights group HRANA said Saturday that 3,531 people have been killed in Iran since the war erupted. It said 1,607 of those were civilians, including at least 244 children.
The group says its data comes from field reports, local contacts, medical and emergency sources, civil society networks, open-source materials and official statements.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said that at least 1,900 people have been killed and 20,000 injured in Iran.
Figures are difficult to verify due to control exerted by Iran’s regime, and the ongoing internet blackout imposed over a month ago.
Monitor Netblocks said Sunday that the blackout was now the longest nationwide shutdown on record.
“Iran’s internet blackout is now the longest nation-scale internet shutdown on record in any country, exceeding all other comparable incidents in severity having entered its 37th consecutive day after 864 hours,” NetBlocks said in a tweet.
