The Hamas crisis in Gaza can be directly laid to the insane weakness of the Nov 24 2013 “agreement” on controlling Iran’s nuclear development. Why “insane”? Facing Iran, a then-weak State, across the table were the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, France, and Germany. The 6 great powers said “this is what we would like” and Iran replied “this is what I will do.”

It was Iran that laid down the conditions for its cooperation and those were the conditions that were basically accepted by these great powers. Power could have made an offer that could not be refused, e.g, bombed out of existence a missile base within Iran. But no, that would have been contrary to some notion of polite negotiation, so instead of a demand backed by the power at that table, the 6 instead said to Iran, “maybe you can give a little more” which Iran did, and then Obama and Kerry declared a great victory and Iran got the correct message that it could do whatever it wanted so long as it didn’t advertise.

And this is what Iran did: strengthened Hezbollah, armed and strengthened Hamas, weakened Iraq, neutralized Saudi Arabia, scared the US Fleet in the Gulf, strengthened its World-Wide propaganda arm, and continued its nuclear development underground. And yes, when it deemed Hamas ready, it OKed the current assault against Israel. So given that it was us in the USA who led the team facing Iran, were I a Hamas supporter, I would like to thank President Obama and Secretary Kerry. And our news in the USA shows that there are many here now who are doing just that.
