Pirro ‘not surprised’ after DC officers placed on leave amid crime stats probe
More than a dozen Washington, D.C., police officers were placed on leave this week amid an internal investigation into the alleged manipulation of crime statistics, a development U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro said on Thursday did not shock her.
“I’m not surprised,” Pirro told reporters. “We did an investigation starting in August, before anybody else did, because we knew that those stats were deflated.”
Interim Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Chief Jeffery Carroll announced Tuesday that 13 individuals had been placed on administrative leave from the department and faced potential disciplinary action, including possible termination.
The group included at least two high-ranking officials: Assistant Chief LaShay Makal and Second District Cmdr. Tatjana Savoy, according to The Washington Post.
“No one was fired,” Carroll noted during a press conference.
Carroll said the internal affairs investigation was referred to the department by the U.S. attorney’s office earlier this year, saying only that it was crime related.
“Beyond that, I cannot get into any specifics of the investigation,” he said. “The administrative process must be allowed to take its course.”
While the interim chief declined to delve into what the probe found, Pirro offered a glimpse into the allegations........
