More than 30 million watched U.S. World Cup match against Belgium

More than 30 million people tuned in to watch the U.S. men’s national soccer team play Belgium in a knockout stage World Cup match Monday night in Seattle.

Fox said its broadcast earned an average viewership of 30 million, topping out at 36.8 million between 9:15-9:30 p.m. EDT as the Americans tried, and failed, to mount a second-half comeback.

The U.S. was eliminated with a 4-1 loss to the Belgians, who scored twice in the second half and punched their ticket to the quarterfinals against Spain on Friday.

Monday’s match came against a backdrop of controversy over President Trump’s request that FIFA reinstate star U.S. striker Folarin Balogun, who had been handed a red card last week during the team’s win........
