Arrests made after curfew takes effect at ICE detention facility
NEWARK, N.J. (WPIX) – New Jersey’s attorney general is responding to arrests that were made after a curfew went into effect Sunday night around Delaney Hall, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility at the center of protests.
The curfew comes after more nights of tense clashes between protestors and officers over the weekend. It’s in effect nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for a half-mile area surrounding Delaney Hall until further notice.
New Jersey Attorney General Jessica Davenport said people in the zone covered by the curfew order were given numerous warnings to leave the area by 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. She said many protestors complied with the order, but that a group of people armed with helmets, shields, and gas masks “deliberately refused to comply with repeated orders to leave the area and were arrested.”
The curfew was implemented after more unrest outside Delaney Hall, with fires being set, clashes over barricades, officers on horseback, and tear gas being deployed.
