The landmark surgery took place four months after the NEO system secured Class III medical device registration from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on March 13, 2026—making it the first implantable BCI medical device cleared for commercial prescription worldwide. A Surge in Funding as Investors Bet on Clinical Translation. The progress in clinical applications comes as investment interest in China’s BCI sector increases. According to IT Juzi, a Chinese technology investment database, between 2013 and May 2026, 43 Chinese BCI companies completed 104 financing rounds, raising a total of 9.37 billion Yuan. The pace of funding accelerated sharply. In the first four months of 2026 alone, financing in China’s BCI sector had already exceeded the total amount recorded for the whole of 2025.
