Women regain sight after pioneering 'two for one' hospital transplant

The operations were carried out at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital (N&N) by consultant ophthalmologist Mr Christian Gunasekera who divided one single donated cornea allowing two patients to benefit from the life-changing surgery.

Dividing a single donated organ between multiple recipients is commonplace in fields such as liver transplantation, but routine division of the cornea is rare with only a handful of surgeons performing the procedure.
