Knoops Chocolate has lodged plans with Norwich City Council to open a new store at 21 Haymarket, the former home of Harris and James.

The bakery and ice cream business announced the sudden closure of its city branch in January due to a drop in interest after a post-pandemic rush of customers.

Knoops, which serves hot chocolates, milkshakes and baked goods, is hoping to move into the vacant unit.

Before Harris and James, the unit was home to the West Cornwall Food Co (Image: Google Maps)The brand offers a unique menu from which customers are able to choose from different strengths of chocolate and flavours like sea salt, orange or chilli.

The business launched in 2013 and has grown rapidly over the last few years, with its closest branch currently based in Cambridge.

Knoops has not proposed any significant alternations to the Grade II listed Haymarket building but plans to redecorate and is awaiting permission from City Hall to erect its own signage outside.

Norwich City Council will make a decision on the application in due course.
