The unusual find was discovered in Mulbarton Common on Saturday morning by a man who posted the image to Facebook with the caption: "Unbelievable!"

It shows a blackened engine block stuffed into the opening of a green dog waste bin, with pipes and filters still attached, as well as a piece of dark plastic protruding from one corner.

A South Norfolk Council spokesman said: "We are aware of the issue and we will be removing the engine from the dog bin.

"We have a team visiting the site to investigate how to remove the engine and it will be done either today or tomorrow if they need specialist equipment.

"We do not know who put the engine there but we will be carrying out an investigation."
