Clacton man Nigel Kedar had been reported missing after visiting a friend in Norwich in April 2017 - but his body was not discovered until June this year by a member of the public in a field close to the A140 at Mendlesham.
On Friday, the opening of the inquest at Suffolk Coroners Court heard the body found was confirmed by PC Molly Baker of Suffolk Police and referred to the coroner.
A post-mortem was carried out on the body in August and a request was made that the inquest be adjourned to allow for further work to take place.

A full inquest will take place on January 9.
Mr Kedar was last seen in the village of Dickleburgh, two days after visiting his Norwich friend, having walked south from the city along the A140.
The day before the last sighting - April 3, 2017 - a friend had let the air out of Mr Kedar's car tyres due to concerns that he was unfit to drive through alcohol.
CCTV caught Mr Kedar withdrawing £100 of cash from a shop in Long Stratton at 6.30am on April 4 before he was seen for the final time in Dickleburgh at 9.30am.
At the time, police urged people who were driving on the A140 to check their dashcam footage, but Mr Kedar was never found.
A number of searches were carried out by officers, including along the A140, to find Mr Kedar.
Following the discovery of Mr Kedar's body in June, police said they were not treating his death as suspicious.
Mr Kedar's brother Richard described him as a 'friendly, hard-working man who was an important member of the family'.
