Council admits it IS considering asking for election delay

Norwich City Council has been under growing pressure from opposition politicians and members of the public to say whether they intend to postpone the vote, since ministers offered the possibility last month.

The Labour-run authority had previously refused to answer any questions about whether it would seek a delay.

However, officials have now conceded that the matter is still under discussion, with no decision yet made.

The move is in contrast to Norfolk County Council, where leader Kay Mason Billig has said she will not request a postponement.

A question mark was placed over the scheduled elections, when all 84 seats on Norfolk County Council are due to be contested, along with 13 of the 39 seats on Norwich City Council, last month.

Local government minister Alison McGovern told the Commons she and colleagues had heard from councils........
