New Delhi: Mumbai Indians bowler Piyush Chawla achieved a big milestone in the Indian Premier League 2024 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede stadium on Friday. Chawla became the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL after taking hi first scalp during the match.

In the elite list led by Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal with 200 wickets, Chawla was on the third spot with 183 wickets to his name, sharing the position with Chennai Super Kings bowler Dwayne Bravo, who also has taken the same number of wickets. Chawla surpassed Bravo with his first scalp on Friday, taking his tally to 184 to become the second-highest wicket-taker.

Most wickets in the IPL
200 – Yuzvendra Chahal
184 – Piyush Chawla
183 – Dwayne Bravo
178 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Chawal attained the feat on the very first ball he bowled in the match, clinching the wicket of KKR batter Rinku Singh for 9. Rinku, who started off well with the bat smashing couple of boundaries, could not take his score beyond nine runs, getting out caught and bowled to Chawla.

Meanwhile, the 51st match of the IPL 2024 becomes very crucial for Mumbai Indians as its the last lifeline for them to be alive in the cash-rich league. The Hardik Pandya-led side has experienced a poor campaign this season as the five-time title winners have emerged victorious on just three occasions in the ten games they have played. Seven miserable losses have wrecked havoc on their efforts as the nine-placed side struggled to get into the groove in the 17th edition of the game.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are on the bottom while second-placed Knight Riders are experiencing a remarkable IPL 2024.
