Team India head coach Gambhir hints at ‘white-ball break’ for batters to prepare for New Zealand Tests

India could rest several key batters from the white-ball leg of the New Zealand tour as they look to ensure the players are ready for the upcoming Test series.

New Delhi: Some of India’s top batters are likely to be given a break from white-ball cricket during the New Zealand tour to prepare for the Test series, head coach Gautam Gambhir indicated. He highlighted the tough challenge of switching from ODIs to five-day cricket in a short span of time.

Although Gambhir did not directly mention New Zealand, the schedule of the all-format tour makes the context clear. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play the fifth and final ODI in Tauranga on November 16 before starting the first Test in Wellington just three days later.

“Often for Test match preparation, you will have to give your batters a break as well from white-ball to move into Test cricket, because coming from T20 to one-day cricket is easy,”........
