Nepal floods put 16 districts in Bihar, UP on alert as river levels rise

At least 163 people have died and more than 750 remain missing after devastating floods struck Nepal. The disaster has prompted Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to step up monitoring of rivers flowing from Nepal. Authorities have opened all 36 gates of the Gandak Barrage and begun evacuating people from vulnerable areas.

New Delhi: The horrific floods in Nepal have put several Indian states on high alert amid fears of a sudden rise in river levels. At least 163 people have died in Nepal, while more than 750 remain missing. Authorities have placed nine districts of Bihar and seven districts of Uttar Pradesh on alert. Uttarakhand has also increased surveillance along the Sharda River in Champawat district.
