After CoWIN, Aarogya Sethu, Digilocker it’s the turn of NDA’s “anti-fraud" app Sanchar Saathi’s turn to be skewered. The opposition has labelled it “Pegasus ", directly evoking comparisons to the Israeli app that allegedly sneaks into the handsets of unsuspecting mobile users to snoop on them.

The opposition and some cyber experts are convinced that Narendra Modi-led NDA is also going to use Sanchar Saathi to keep track of citizens and extract private data. Stunned by the flurry of accusations, the NDA has hurried to reassure the public that installing or activating the app is “optional" and that users may delete it anytime.

The Centre has also helpfully assured us that Sanchar Saathi can’t read your messages, can’t listen to calls. All it does says the government is to help you block your lost or........
