Banning the burqa won't stop terrorism but it will hurt innocent Muslim women

What repeatedly stuns me is the ability of powerful men to completely shift blame, responsibility and even punishments for the actions of men onto women.

After the horrific terror attack on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka, it is Muslim women who have been punished and become test guinea pigs for a new law banning face coverings, despite no evidence indicating this is an effective way to reduce terrorism.

Yet the Sri Lankan parliament has suggested the burqa is not a part of Muslim attire and instead this garment is used by men to hide behind and carry out acts of terrorism.

And All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU), too, a body of Islamic scholars in South Asia has also welcomed the ban, despite the entire body being made up of men and having issued a fatwa in 2017 demanding women cover their faces.

It shouldn’t shock me how easily men of faith dismiss the........
