In today’s India, stepping out of one’s home requires more caution than ever — not because of traffic or crime, but because of stray dogs. Streets, lanes, parks, hospital entrances, and school routes have quietly turned into risk zones.

This is not perception. It is supported by numbers.

The scale of the problem

Official government data shows that India reports around 3.7 million dog-bite cases every year — nearly 10,000 bites a day. Hospitals administer millions of anti-rabies injections annually.

In Jammu & Kashmir, the situation is even more alarming. Government figures show over 2.1 lakh dog-bite cases since 2022 alone.
