Rights, values and constitution

India is the world’s biggest democracy where individuals of faiths, ethnicities, and regional origins have coexisted harmoniously since time immemorial. The Indian Constitution grants equality, justice, liberty, and dignity to each and every individual irrespective of their religion, caste, or community. The Constitution makes no distinction between majority and minority citizens when it comes to their fundamental rights and tries to ensure that everyone gets equal opportunities. The independence of India was earned after a prolonged fight against the British rule. People from all communities made tremendous sacrifices during the freedom struggle. 

Lately, issues concerning the well-being and security of minority communities have been regularly raised in the last decade. The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has been set up in order to protect the interests of minorities. However, concerns have risen about its functioning. After the term of the Chairman of the Commission is over, there has been no permanent Chairman for the last several months. It can be........
